House Resolution 35

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. FAYE BARHAM ON BEING SELECTED AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE COWAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH.

WHEREAS, Ms. Faye Barham, an English instructor at Hinds Community College at the Raymond Campus, was recently selected as the recipient of the Cowan Award for Excellence in the teaching of English by the Southeast Two-Year College English Association; and

WHEREAS, the Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English was endowed in 1981 to honor Gregory Cowan, an exceptional teacher who made significant contributions to the field of teaching through his example in the classroom, writing of textbooks and involvement in professional organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Cowan Award assesses excellence in four areas and Ms. Barham excels in each of these areas, including quality of instruction; development of curriculum materials; effective leadership in the department; and participation in workshops and conferences related to the teaching of English; and

WHEREAS, because of her outstanding leadership and accomplishments, Ms. Barham was selected as the 1998 Outstanding Instructor at Hinds Community College and as the 1999 Faculty Representative of the Associate Student Government; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Faye Barham, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do commend and congratulate Ms. Faye Barham for being selected as the recipient of the Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Faye Barham and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
